Google won’t let me use my favorite apps in Android Auto, so I found a free workaround

What’s new: A new open source tool called Android Auto Maker allows users to install any app on Android Auto while parked, bypassing Google’s limited app list. This tool repackages APK/XAPK files to be recognized by Android Auto, enabling the use of various apps and games without rooting the device.

Who’s affected

Android users with devices running Android 15 or newer who wish to use apps not officially supported by Android Auto while parked.

What to do

  • Download the latest version of Android Auto Maker from GitHub.
  • Grant the necessary permissions to the app.
  • Obtain the APK/XAPK file of your preferred app.
  • Uninstall the original app if it is already installed.
  • Load the APK file into Android Auto Maker.
  • Select the “Parked game” option.
  • Create the Android Auto Package and install the repackaged APK.
  • Connect your phone to Android Auto and ensure the vehicle is parked to access the new app.
